General guidelines to follow when producing files for your printed circuit board
Generate output files in ASCII text format. Do not mix measurement systems. You use either Imperial or Metric measurements, just ensure that it is consistent in both the NC (Drill) and Gerber files. Inconsistencies in the measurement systems between the files will result in problems in the drill to pad registration. It is advisable to produce the Gerber and NC data in the same resolution (ie. 2.4 or 2.3). This will also reduce the inconsistencies in drill to pad registration. Send Gerber images exactly as drafted. The component side (top layer) will have text right-reading and an x-ray view from the top through to the solder side would show any text reversed. Do not flip, rotate, or mirror any of the foil layers during the output stage. When generating Gerber files, make sure to include the aperture file (D Codes) with the RS-274D data. If the application produces RS-274X data, the aperture file is embedded in the file and is not required, but is recommended. NC (Drill) files should be viewable with any text editor, and must not contain any extended ASCII character sets.
